If I choose not to subscribe to Poker Charts after my free trial is over, do I lose my data? [back to top]
No. You can still log-in and export your data in the form of a spreadsheet.
I forgot my password. What do I do? [back to top]
Please visit this page, fill in your email address and we'll send you your password hint (if you provided one) to help jog your memory. If you still can't remember it, the email will also contain instructions for resetting your password.
Help! I can't login! [back to top]
Please make sure that 1.) you are using exactly the same email address that you used when signing-up when logging in and 2.) that the caps-lock key is not engaged when you are typing in your password. (The password is case-sensitive.) In addition, some web browsers will 'auto-fill' passwords, so if you get it wrong the first time around, it will fill it in incorrectly from that point forward unless you type it in explicitly right before you press the 'LOGIN' button. Make sure you're typing in the correct password using the original upper- and lower-case letters you orginally used. Again, the password is case-sensitive. If you are still not able to login, please follow the instructions in the question above entitled 'I forgot my password. What do I do?'
What is a session? [back to top]
A session is a single sitting of a game of Poker. In theory, poker is a perpetual, never ending game. You simply play with different people in different situations. A session includes a location, a game variation (i.e., Hold 'Em), betting structure (i.e., $1-$2 pot limit), hours played, monetary return and win rate.
Does Poker Charts analyze hand-by-hand data? [back to top]
No. Hand-by-hand data and statistics are often provided for you by the major online poker rooms. A lot of information is needed to successfully analyze hand-to-hand performance...if you were keeping track of it all you wouldn't have time to play! Poker Charts provides long term, session-by-session analysis over many different online or offline games.
How do I enter information into Poker Charts? [back to top]
To access Poker Charts, you simply log-in to www.PokerCharts.com with your email address and password. After that you enter information through an easy-to-use, wizard-like interface.
How do I view my statistics with Poker Charts? [back to top]
To access Poker Charts, you simply log-in to www.PokerCharts.com with your email address and password. Once you have inputted session information, your statistics and graphs are immediately available on the start-up screen. The statistics and graphs are generated on-the-fly, so changes to session data will automatically update them.
What statistics are tracked with Poker Charts? [back to top]
Poker Charts includes, but is not limited to, the following statistics: overall earnings, overall win hourly win rate, average return, average hourly win rate, average return standard deviation, average hourly win rate standard deviation, big bets won or lost per hour (BB/hr), return on investment (ROI), return on investment as compared to an equal investment in the 30 stocks in the Dow Jones Industrials Average, games played, hours played, locations played, sessions played and streak information. All of this data can be sorted or analyzed by date, game, opponent, location and other filters. The help section of the application provides full definitions and formulas for each of these items. In addition, Poker Charts tracks opponent notes—a handy feature when playing online.
Does Poker Charts graph any of the data? [back to top]
Yes. Poker Charts provides over 50 graphs of session data, including line plots, bar graphs, pie charts and combination graphs. All graphs are available to all users all the time. The tour contains screenshots of these graphs.
Does Poker Charts track opponent information? [back to top]
Yes. You can use Poker Charts to keep notes about players and track the type of player he/she is. (i.e., Loose-Aggressive, Tight-Passive, etc.) You can then associate these players with your sessions and filter your statistics based on these players.
How do I know that Poker Charts correctly calculates statistics? [back to top]
All of the Poker Charts calculations are based on published, widely available mathematical and statistical formulas. If you are still unconvinced, you can easily plug some of the numbers into a spreadsheet and double-check them.
Can I use Poker Charts with online poker games? [back to top]
Of course. It is especially handy when tracking oft-encountered opponents. Moreover, Poker Charts will aggregate and analyze your offline and online statistics, giving you a unique perspective on your overall performance.
Can I use Poker Charts to track tournament results? [back to top]
Yes. Poker Charts can filter your data by single table or multi table tournaments, both online and offline.
Why is Poker Charts better than a spreadsheet? [back to top]
A spreadsheet is a general-purpose application that is great at calculation, but poor at organizing and presenting the type of data poker record-keeping generates. Not only do you need to set up the spreadsheet to easily input session information, it would take hours of manipulation to generate the correlations, graphs, filters and statistics found in Poker Charts. On top of that, a spreadsheet is stored on your hard drive, which can crash or become corrupted at anytime. This is assuming that you have the latest spreadsheet software installed and working properly with your operating system in the first place. Poker Charts data is backed up at least twice daily, and redundant servers mean that the application is always available. Lastly, you cannot access your spreadsheet from a remote location—your Poker Charts data is always available through any web browser.
Why is Poker Charts better than installed software programs? [back to top]
For a few reasons: 1.) Most software programs are only available for certain platforms—PC or Mac, rarely both. Poker Charts will run on any platform with a web browser. 2.) Installing software on your computer sometimes causes conflicts with other programs, rendering one or the other or both useless. There is no download or installation required for Poker Charts. 3.) You must obtain and install patches for software programs when they are upgraded or fixed. Poker Charts is upgraded and patched live on the server. All upgrades are immediately applied for all users. 4.) When you upgrade your computer, sometimes older installed programs won't work. Poker Charts will always work since it is accessed through a web browser. 5.) When your computer crashes or fails, you lose your programs and data. Poker Charts is hosted on a redundant server farm and is backed up twice daily. Your data is always available, anytime. 6.) In most cases you cannot access your installed software from a remote location—your Poker Charts data is always available through any web browser.
I've seen sites that are similar to Poker Charts. Why is Poker Charts better? [back to top]
Poker Charts is the original web-based poker record keeping application. We've been around for over 10 years now and we plan to be around for many more. There have been many imitators but almost all are cheap fly-by-night operations with a fraction of the functionality, and a lack of usability. Even more disturbing, some are set up for the sole purpose of collecting your data and using it elsewhere, or they act as shills to get you into a particular online cardroom. These sites claim to be 'free' but certainly that is a heavy price to pay. We would never do something like that, pursuant to our strict privacy policy. We are not in the data collection, data brokering or casino business. Poker Charts has only one objective: to make you a better poker player. There is simply no better way to track your game and expose the patterns and trends that will make you more money than with Poker Charts.
Can I export my data? [back to top]
Yes. You can export your data to a comma-delimited (.csv) file at any time.
How safe is my data? [back to top]
Safer than on your internet-connected home computer! Your data is segmented and encrypted behind a virus-free firewall-protected environment. We do not store your name, credit card number or any other financial information—we just use that information to enable your subscription and then toss it. Session data is simply linked to an email address and cannot be accessed without a password. The password is encrypted on the server, so even if someone got past all of the security measures and broke into the server, they wouldn't be able to link session data to email addresses—they would just have a meaningless bunch of numbers. Beware of your home computer! The average home computer connected to the internet via a broadband connection is subject to many, many viruses and security exploits. Protect yourself with anti-virus software and a firewall.
Do you store my personal or financial data? [back to top]
No. We only store your email address, Poker Charts password, and your poker data. When you subscribe or renew your subscription to Poker Charts, we only use the financial information you provide us to 'unlock' your account. We also employ a strict privacy policy. Click here to read our entire privacy policy.
Do you sell or use my data elsewhere? [back to top]
Absolutely not. We NEVER share data with any third parties or use it for any purpose other than to crunch your numbers, build your graphs and display your statistics TO YOU AND ONLY YOU. We employ a strict privacy policy. Click here to read our entire privacy policy.
Are you affiliated with any online or offline casinos? [back to top]
Absolutely not.
Do I have to pay extra for any additional functionality? [back to top]
No. All users enjoy all of the features and functionality of Poker Charts.
How do I get the 30-day free trial? [back to top]
Just sign up. All you need is a valid email address.
Why not make the site free and use banner ads to support it? [back to top]
The online poker world is crowded with enough banner ads and pop-ups. We don't want them on our site, and we don't want to be beholden to advertisers to change the functionality on the site.
What does my subscription fee cover? [back to top]
Your modest membership fee will cover the ongoing maintenance and operation of Poker Charts and fund the continued development of researched and user-requested features and functionality.
What forms of payment do you accept for subscription fees? [back to top]
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and Paypal.
Does Poker Charts work in multiple currencies? [back to top]
Yes. Poker Charts works with US dollars (US$), Canadian dollars (CAD$), Euros(€), Pounds Sterling (£), Australian dollars(AUD$) and Japanese Yen (¥).
You can also pay for your subscription with any of these currencies at competitive exchange rates.
